What It Is

Maggi is a concentrated seasoning sauce first developed in Switzerland in the late 1800s. Regional versions vary in flavor and salt level.

What It Is Good In

  • Noodles
  • Stir-fries
  • Soups
  • Egg dishes
  • Marinades

How to Use It

Use small amounts first (about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon), taste, then add more as needed.

Flavor Notes

Salty, dark, and savory with strong umami. It works best as a supporting seasoning, not the main flavor.

Substitutions

  • Golden Mountain sauce
  • Light soy sauce plus a pinch of sugar (for balance)
